DIETITIANS WEEK IN WALES
Bwrdd Cymru BDA were delighted to host a successful political event at The Senedd (National Assembly for Wales) on 12th June, during Dietitians Week 2014. On a glorious sunny day, the Senedd event, hosted by Mark Drakeford AM, Minister for Health and Social Services, provided a fantastic back drop for the final Parliamentary reception to celebrate Dietitians Week.
The Senedd was filled with excellent posters and displays profiling the work of the profession in a range of areas – students from Cardiff Met were also well represented and profiled some of their final year posters.
Over 100 people including dietitians, dietetic support workers, representatives from the Welsh Government, the NHS in Wales, Public Health Wales as well as representatives of the Welsh Assembly, including AMs and members of their support staff, all came together to celebrate the significant contribution of the profession in Wales.
BDA Chairman Siân O’Shea provided a great introduction to Dietitians Week saying
‘Trust a Dietitian and the role that dietitians play in ensuring that individuals receive the right service, at the right level, at the right time, every time.’
Mark Drakeford, Minister for Health and Social Services, outlined how impressed he was at the displays and evidence of fantastic work being undertaken in the profession across Wales. He added his thoughts on the importance of ‘Prudent Healthcare’ and provided an example of how dietitians are contributing to this agenda. He also noted the key role of the profession in public health highlighting the current Public Health White Paper out for consultation and encouraging responses from the profession.
The event was a great opportunity for the profession in Wales to profile at a national level, to key people, the fantastic work they are doing and the key contribution they are making to the delivery of health and social care in Wales. With over 30 posters displayed at the event, the excellent work and the impact of the profession in Wales was clear for all to see.
