Pre-conceptual care
Dietitians help advise on nutrition and early foetal development as part of public health initiatives to enable a greater awareness of the importance of good nutrition prior to conception.
Pregnancy
Nutritional counselling based on face-to-face visits and recommendation for patient-focused caloric intake, are more likely to be successful. Nevertheless, the ability of health care systems to deliver time-intensive interventions at population level remains unknown.
Studies investigating the cost-benefits for the health care system in implementing interventions for reducing total Gestational Weight Gain between 1kg –2 kg on long-term outcomes are still needed.
